The Challenge
Updating the logo for a legacy title like Microsoft Flight Simulator—a game that has defined the genre for over 40 years—was an extraordinary challenge.
With a dedicated global fan base and a history steeped in aviation culture, the updated identity had to strike a delicate balance: staying true to the familiar, beloved elements of the original logo while modernizing it for a new generation. Beyond aesthetics, the redesign also needed to improve readability and offer flexibility for a variety of applications, from digital platforms to smaller-scale branding.

The Zephyr is a sleek, flowing graphical element that symbolizes limitless possibilities, embodying the freedom, exhilaration, and determination to rise beyond the clouds and achieve greatness.
We began with a deep dive into the history and visual DNA of Microsoft Flight Simulator, identifying the core elements that fans instantly recognize.
These elements were refined with subtle yet impactful adjustments to enhance clarity and scalability without losing the essence of the original design.
Additionally, we collaborated with the developer teams to craft a key-art composition that captured the essence of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This collaboration culminated in a hero image of a visually stunning land/skyscape that seamlessly wove together a multitude of aircraft and scenarios—from expansive flight dynamics in the skies to intricate ground-based missions.

To further elevate the experience, we designed premium, limited-edition packaging for the Premium and Aviator editions of the game.
Inspired by the elegant livery of business-class small aircraft, we created a memorable unboxing experience. The packaging featured a SteelBook® case that mimicked the sleek look and feel of an aircraft fuselage, combining sophistication with the spirit of aviation.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched with a renewed visual identity that was instantly embraced by fans.
The updated logo honored the game’s legacy while providing the flexibility needed for its next chapter. Paired with its premium packaging, epic key art, and visual storytelling, the release proved that thoughtful design can propel a classic franchise into the future while maintaining its connection to the past.
